What happened
On December 29, 1980, at around 9:00 p.m., Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and her seven-year-old grandson Colby were driving along a wooded road near Huffman, outside Houston. A brilliant diamond-shaped object appeared above the trees, belching flames at intervals. They stopped, and Betty Cash got out and watched it up close for several minutes; the car became so hot that it was hard to touch the door handle. When the object flew away, it was surrounded, according to the witnesses, by more than 20 military helicopters, including twin-rotor CH-47 Chinooks. In the following days all three suffered skin burns, vomiting, hair loss, and eye problems. Betty Cash spent many weeks in the hospital.
Witnesses
Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and Colby Landrum; several other local residents reported seeing helicopters that night.
Explanations and hypotheses
The women sued the U.S. government for 20 million dollars, but in 1986 the court dismissed the suit because the military denied having any such helicopters or object in the area. Doctors disagreed on whether the symptoms indicated radiation sickness. Skeptics suggested a secret military test or other medical causes. In the end, it was never determined what the victims saw.
Unexplained There is no convincing explanation.
