Abductions
Alien abduction stories became widespread in the 1960s after the famous case of Betty and Barney Hill. A typical account includes missing time, a medical examination on board and beings with large eyes. Psychologists point to sleep paralysis, false memories reinforced by hypnosis and the influence of popular culture, but researchers rarely doubt the sincerity of many witnesses.
