What happened
In the summer of 2000, a local farmer found a circle of flattened plants in his field of green wheat, which he said had appeared overnight. In the following years, formations appeared around Wylatowo every summer and became increasingly complex – with circles connected by corridors and geometric figures. In July 2001, residents of nearby farms spoke of television interference and flashes in the sky on the night another formation appeared. Researchers from the Nautilus Foundation, journalists, and tourists came to Wylatowo, and the village was also covered by the foreign press. The series ended in the middle of the decade, but Wylatowo still promotes itself as “Poland’s UFO capital.”
Witnesses
Local farmers and residents, as well as researchers from the Nautilus Foundation, who documented the formations.
Explanations and hypotheses
No independent scientific studies have been carried out that would demonstrate an unusual origin for the circles. Proponents point to alleged changes in the plants and soil and to reports of flashes; skeptics point out that such patterns are easy to make at night and that a series of circles in one place attracted imitators and publicity. The makers of the formations have not been identified.
Disputed A likely explanation exists, but some of the facts are still disputed.
